740 Peacoat by Schott NYC is crafted from a 32 oz. navy melton wool blend. If you’re looking for a traditional style peacoat, look no further than the 740. You’ll receive exceptional protection from the elements with this peacoat’s robust combination of 80% melton wool and 20% nylon fibers.

To produce the melton cloth, the contents are interlocked and pressed together before the wool is cut therefore guaranteeing the best outdoor protection. The strong nylon fibers makes the fabric stronger, more durable, and helps retain its shape when exposed to moisture. Adding the nylon also makes the garment moth resistant and less likely to shrink when exposed to the elements.

Schott’s 740 features all the standard peacoat details like its double-breasted design and straight cut down the body. Just like current US Navy peacoats, a center vent is utilized in the back. Ten black plastic buttons with the “fouled anchor” design are sewn onto the front. 8 are visible while the other 2 are hidden underneath the lapel. 

The vertically placed slit pockets on the front allow for easy access. Two chest pockets are added to the inside to carry your everyday items. An oversized Ulster collar is ulilized to allow the collar to be buttoned up closer to the face therefore providing additional warmth.

Schott peacoats were first introduced at the beginning of the second world war when Irving Schott was commissioned by the US Navy to produce rugged and warm outerwear for servicemen on deck. Schott continued to manufacture leather and wool outwear for the US military until the late 1990s. The 740 peacoat is still made in the United States upholding its Naval heritage.
